Courageous effort by our lads could not stop the powerful Division 1A Mullingar Team. Weâll use this as a great learning exercise which has highlighted areas of development for our team. The good news is that we have qualified for a Plate competition and we will be in Ardee next Saturday.
Next training session on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
We win as a team and we learn as team!

U16 Leinster League Division 1 Longford U15 00 Cill Dara 22
Longford U16s came up against table topperâs Cill Dara on a wet and mucky Saturday last at CPL Park. Cill Dara are run-away League leaders and have yet to be troubled but were clearly rattled by a gutsy Longford display in difficult conditions.
With 5 of the lads coming to the game straight out of County GAA training warming up was muted but it worked in our favour as Longford were straight out of the blocks from the kick-off. They controlled the ball for the opening 10 minutes and it looked as if an upset was possible. Tom Gilheany and Luke McIntyre were like men possessed, tackling and cleaning out at ruck time. Darragh OâToole controlled the front of the lineout and Conor Craig was at every breakdown causing problems for the opposition. Despite the conditions Ryan Corcoran kept Ryan McHugh fed and he linked up well with Tom Gilheany and Michael McCann on a number of occasions. McCannâs defence was solid throughout. A momentary lapse allowed the Cill Dara backs to break through and score the only try of the first half. Peadar Kenny got in on the action with a few thundering runs and Conor Craig carried and slipped out of tackles as only he can. Eoin Reilly carried a huge amount of ball all day but relished the tussle and retained possession every time he went into contact. Callum Delaney contines to improve and his scrummaging is now as solid as ever. Gabriel Grey, despite the conditions, kept the scrum solid and worked tirelessly in the loose. Paulius Merkelis was also on top of his game and his speed to the breakdown was noticeable all day. It was a difficult day for the back three of James Kennedy, Nicolas Moore and Liam Sheridan and the conditions meant the all the action was in tight while they had to endure the cold and wet and still be prepared for action. Again, none of the lads let the side down despite this. Longford had one half scoring chance in the second half when a little chip from Ryan McHugh was gathered by him and slipped to Tom Gilheany. Tom just lost control as he was simultaneously tackled.
Overall a great gutsy performance given the conditions and we look forward to Roscrea next week.
