Longford RFC Facilities

Longford RFC is one of the most progressive rugby clubs in Ireland.  This is reflected in our excellent facilities and constant renewal and addition to these facilities.

Club House

Longford have one of the best Clubhouse Facilities in the country in the form of the Sin Bin Longford, which serves excellent food and drink and is an excellent venue for any function for members and friends of the club.  The clubhouse has been extended to include the Hugh Connolly Youth center which provides excellent facilities for our Mini/Youth players allow for better Mini/Youth Facilities and a dedicated medical room.

Playing Facilities

Longford have two all weather grass pitches, which also have full lighting.  The main pitch has recently upgraded match standard floodlights and a covered stand, along with full fencing and covered subs benches and an electronic score board.

A new state of the art full size 3G pitch is currently under construction and should be ready in January 2021.  You can find full details at this link. The surface when finished will be up there with the best installed worldwide and will be one of the only fully flood light 4G artificial pitches suitable for contact sports outside Dublin and will be available for use by the whole community. It will allow year round sport to be played in the heart of Longford Town in anything but the most extreme weather and will mark a huge investment in County Longford and surrounding counties.

Longford RFC have a Strength and Conditioning Centre for players opened in the memory of former Club Captain, Derek Belton and five men’s dressing rooms, along with a Physio treatment room and separate Referees and Woman’s Changing Rooms.

New 4G Pitch Progress Update

Progress continues unabated on our new state of the art 4G pitch despite the persistent heavy rain.  Our contractors PST Sport took advantage of the dryer weather last week to really push on with a substantial amount of the base layer now installed.  We are still on target for opening in late December/early January, which coincides with the time of the year when an all weather pitch is most required.  Once opened cancellations due to water logged pitches will be a thing of the past.  We will keep posting weekly updates on its progress.

The cost of project is c€600,000.  Although we have received a sizeable grant from LCDC of Longford County Council through the Leader programme, we still need to raise the balance of the funds.  Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.  We still have some way to go, however.  If you can contribute, please contact Derick Turner on 0862559624. An innovative scheme is available where any contributions can be spread via a lost cost monthly direct debit.
