Longford Woman show lots of potential in their first match 2018-09-17 17:35:00

160918 Leinster Woman’s League Division 4 Tallaght v Longford

Longford Woman took on Tallaght away in their first match of the season. For a lot of the players this was their first rugby match ever, so building experience was the aim for the day. Tallaght came out of the blocks fast and had a try scored before Longford had a chance to settle. But the Longford side started to find their feet and put some good phases together. Lineouts were working well with debutant Laura Cassin having a great game winning clean ball and causing havoc to the Tallaght lineouts, her lifters Louise Hillary and Irene Murtagh have to take some credit for getting her up well. Longford found themselves 17 to 0 down at half time but they were starting to get more into the game. The second half was a completely different game with another newbie Hannah Shea and Fidelma Fallon making big carries. Emma Dardis at scrum half was linking well with the forwards and backs and with Megan Banahan putting in great kicks at out half.  Longford were on the front foot for most of this half. Some serious tackling by Clare Clabby, Rebecca O Hara, Rebecca Duffy, Michelle Farrell and another newbie Maria Kelleher held Tallaght to just 2 tries in this half. Longford managed to create their own try with a lovely move off a scrum which saw Megan Banahan crash over for a well deserved team try. The conversion was narrowly missed. This was a great learning curve for the whole team and if they keep improving they should have a great season. The Final score was Tallaght 27 Longford 5.

Team: Irene Murtagh, Fidelma Fallon, Laura Cassin, Louise Hillary, Hannah Shea, Maria Kelleher, Emma Dardis, Megan Banahan, Michelle Farrell, Clare Clabby. Rebecca Duffy & Rebecca O Hara.
