Development XV have to settle for draw 2018-01-15 14:59:00

14/01/2017 Leinster Seconds League Division 1B Longford Development XV 12 Coolmine 12

It was honours even for Longford Development XV after the 80 had elapsed, but what a thrilling and engaging encounter this was. The home side dominated most of this contest, and it was a testament to the visitors that the took the chances that were presented to them.

An early try scored and converted by the visiting Coolmines meant that Longford had to battle hard to get back in the game. They did this by owning the territorial dominance and the efforts of the pack as exemplified by Paud Farrell and John Geelan were impressive.

There was noting shy about the back's input with Paddy Duggan and Eoin Bartley showinbg shome fine skills. Substitute Dara O'Connor was also very visible in his contribution.

As the half wore on all the pressure was coming from the home side. Duggan got his side's first score and Cian Bannon tacked on the difficult conversion to leave it 07-07.

A series of errors gave the Dubliners their first foray behind the home team's lines. This ultimatly resulted in a hack chase the was grounded to put Coolmines ahead 7-12.

This put a lot of pressure on Longford who had been working hard right up to that. It was a resurgent Longford who next scored. Having gradually shunted the visitors to within the five metre line a series of pick and drives saw Liam Brady go for th line. It was all aboard the Brady bus as the prop carried ball and a number of oppoonents over to level for his side.

Bannons conversion effort came a cropper and, as the conditions deteriorated, two subsequent penalty efforts one by Bannon and one by Aaron Beirne were also unsuccessful. It was a good performance for Longford but Robert Lee's charges will feel that they could have got a little more out of this one.
