Development Team notch up another good win 2017-01-23 21:24:00

220117 Leinster Seconds League Division 2A

Longford Development XV weathered a late resurgence from Newbridge RFC Seconds team to win out on a score of 24-10 at CPL Park on Sunday.  As with the last number of games the Longford side continued on an upward trajectory as they begin to gel as a unit.

The Development XV put the visitors under a lot of pressure over the course of the game by running aggressive but intelligent attacking lines and employing tasty offloads to keep the opposition constantly scrambling to try and contained a vivacious and attractive attack.

Longford controlled the game right from the off and an early penalty struck home by Donal Flynn got the Camlin side team ticking.  In the initial encounter’s, Longford were a bit too eager to press the advantages and got bogged down inside the visiting Kildare men's 22.

In the first 40 substitute Shane Quinn crossed the whitewash to add to two more Flynn conversions, leaving the score at the break was 14-00.  As the game progressed fine performances from James Geelan and Niall Flynn helped press the Longford advantage.

Quinn got a well deserved second thanks in no small part to some dainty handwork by Darragh Connolly.  Lorcan Connolly completed the haul when he finished off a wonderful sequence of offload that displayed the attacking power of keeping the ball alive.

Longford may have conceded two tries before the conclusion of the game, but it was all but over at that stage. Another fine performance that nudges the development squad a bit closer to Railway Union and Edenderry.

Squad:

James Geelan, Niall Flynn, Shane McVeigh, Mick Cullen, David Geelan, John Geelan, Sean Smyth, Donal Flynn, JJ Cox, Lorcan Connolly, Sean Flynn,
