Good 8 point win for the Warriors v Greystones   25/01/2016

Womans Leinster League Division 3 Longford 20 Greystones 10

The Warrior's welcomed Greystones to CPL park Longford for a double header game with 10 points at stake. The conditions were perfect and the Warriors had numbers on the side line but were missing captain Mairead Coy who is out with a knee injury. The Warriors received the kick off and started well putting some good phases of rugby together. It was not long before they found themselves inside the Greystones 22 and forced a penalty right in front of the posts. Up stepped fullback Carol Manning who put it straight between the posts; 3 to 0 to the Warriors
The Warriors confidence grew with the score with Amanda Lennon and Leanne Early carrying well right back into the opposition half. Greystones were feeling the pressure and gave away several penalties. Longford decided to tap and go looking for a try but were held up short a few times.  However, after from another Greystones penalty concession Warriors scrum half Nuala Mcgoey took it quickly and twisted over the line for a try.
It was now Greystones turn to get on the score board and having worked their way down the field well they managed to force a penalty. They went for the posts and scored.
The Warriors responded by started pushing up the field again with the pack working hard; Lisa Brady was driving forward at every opportunity with great assistance from Emma Mulvey, Fiona Dowd and Sharon Leonard.  Not wanting to be left out Lorraine Connor was causing big problems for the Greystones defence with her offloading game.  Just outside the Greystones ‘22’ the Warriors won a scrum which No. 8 Amanda Lennon picked from the base and sucking in a few defenders.  The ball went out to the backs to Cliodhna O’Donnell who powered over the line for a great team try which was converted leaving the score 15 3 in Longford favour at half time..

The second half was a much tighter contest in which Greystones coming out fighting. The Warriors had to soak up some serious pressure with Claire Clabby, Aishling Ormsby and Saoirse O'Flaherty putting in some great tackles.  Unfortunately the pressure resulted in the Warriors conceding a few penalties. Greystones took them quickly and eventually their pressure told with them crossing the whitewash for a converted try. 

Longford responded with outhalf Helen Conefrey putting in some clever kicks to put the Warriors on the front foot.  Rebecca O Hara put in a great chase after one of these kicks and managed to get on the end of it and weave her way passed a few defenders. This put the Warriors on the attack again with a scrum awarded in a great attaching position. From the scrum the forwards took it through a few phases sucking in the defence. The ball then got flashed out the backline for Carol Manning to cross the line for another great team try.  The Warriors were on the defence for the remaining minutes of the game but managed to hold firm and finished the game with 8 points in the bag on the back of a scoreline of 20 10.
The Warriors travel to Clontarf next Sunday for a 1pm KO. Training continues every Tuesday and Friday at 7:30.
