With the cancellation of Longford’s challenge clash with Edenderry last weekend Longford 1ST XV will be rearing to go in their first Leinster League encounter of the season.
CPL Park plays host to visiting Wicklow who will be hoping to prove that the loss of their coach Niall Smullen has had no effect on their aspirations. Smullen, who also coached Newbridge College last year has taken up a new post at Bective.
Longford will look at this game as an important indicator for the season with the new coaching team anxious to get things off to a positive start. New Captain Clifford Richardson will lead his team out on Sunday at 2:30.
This is sure to be good one for the spectators as previous clashes between the sides have always given high levels of entertainment for the public.

Longford 2nds XV will benefit from the expert guidance of the first team coaches along with their own coaching team of Steven Coy and Damien Curley for the season. Head Coach Niall Moran welcomed the development says that he want to sees all players that are available for selection in both squads over the course of the season. Niall commented; “All the players know that there is no such thing as a secure spot. Everyone who trains with us had the opportunity to put their hand up for selection. We have a very strong bunch of players and the competition coming from developing players will only improve that”.
Niall has also changed the policy of not playing the reserve first team players in 2nd XV games. Steve Coy commented “This is to be welcomed by all playing on the 2nd XV. Our team want to get as much pitch time as possible. They need to get game time to press for a starting place on the 1st XV.”
