Match Reports

Longford U8 Team who played in a Blitz in Buccaneers

U14 Girls

Longford U14 Girls headed to Skerries to play their second game in the development league. They play ABS, which is made up of Ashbourne, Balbriggan and Skerries. The first half was all one sided with Longford missing a lot of tackles on a number of their key players letting them run in a number of easy tries. Longford’s scrums and set plays worked well but they were not finished off several times just metres from the line. The second half was definitely dominated by Longford with a lot more forward running seeing them cross the line six times in the second half of the game. Unfortunately, Longford left their come back too late with the final score 33 to 55. The U14s are at home against Athy next Saturday, while the U10s and U12s are in Mullingar.

U12

After a now traditional slow start the signs were ominous for the troops at Buccaneers on Saturday morning. After a three tries to one first show the chat at the break asked questions of the lads.  Game two was a much improved performance and a good result as the lads won four tries to one. Scores from William McEntire took the game by the scruff of the neck after good work by James Cosgrove, Sean Ginty and Ryan Spollen put pressure on a confident Bucc’s team.

Games 3&4 were tight encounters but we were second best on the day. Overall, we were pleased with the performance as the Bucc’s team are by far the best squad we played this year. They kept us scoreless at home in December so to be competitive against them this time was a great return and a huge boost to our confidence, showing we have improved well over the season.  Next up is midlands area blitz in Edenderry on Saturday.

Club News

Great Support

Thank you to everyone that travelled to CPL Park yesterday to support Longford Senior Men.  It was the biggest crowd we had this season and undoubtedly you all helped spur the lads onto victory with your great support.  It was also brilliant to see so many of our Youth players in attendance.  Hopefully you will be playing for our Senior teams on great days like Sunday past in years to come.  Make sure to mark St. Patricks day in your diary as we face Kilkenny at home in the Provincial Towns Cup Quarter Final at 3 PM and again need your support.

Midlands U16s

Best of luck to Kevin McDonagh and Kola Adejinmi who again line out for the Midlands U16s, this time versus the Metro U16s.  The match kicks off in Mullingar on Thursday at 6.45 PM.

Minis/Youths Club questionnaire

A parents and players survey has been circulated at training sessions for members feedback. This is an anonymous survey so please complete and return as soon as you can.
