Leinster League Division 1B Carlow v Longford Match Preview   06/12/2018

by Tommy Butler Longford RFC PRO

Longford Senior Men take on Carlow in Oak Park this Sunday in their last Leinster League game of 2018.  This will be match nine of this seasons Leinster League in which Longford have cemented and built on last year’s third place finish with seven wins out of eight matches to date.  The only match they have lost so far was against Suttonian’s who lie just behind Longford in second place level on points.

The last meeting between the two sides was at the start of October where Longford scored a bonus point 28-19 win in CPL Park courtesy of tries from Kieran O’Gorman, Dylan Quinn, Captain Neal Farrell and Shane Rodgers. However, make no mistake Oak Park Carlow is a tough ground to visit and one in which Longford have got little change out of in the past.  The team will have to be at their best to come away from Carlow with a win.  Incidentally Longford’s last visit to Oak Park was a very happy one, when they scored a win and secured the Division 2A Title and promotion in the last game of 15-16 season.  Carlow’s last three matches were a win against Coolmine, who Longford beat last week, a win versus DLSP and a loss to third placed Monkstown.  All in all, it makes for a fascinating contest and one which Longford will want to approach at full tilt.

The Early XV will be also hoping to continue their great recent form having gone on a five match winning streak, which has brought them to joint third place only two points off the top of the league.  They will be looking to overturn a reversal versus Carlow earlier on in the season.

The Early XV Kick Off at 12.30 PM and the Late XV at 2 PM.  Please hit the road early as we would appreciate as much support as possible.

Longford Women will be looking to continue their recent good form with a match at home to Portlaoise at 1 PM in what is also their last league game of 2018.

Finally, Longford Senior Men will line out in the Midland League Final versus Edenderry in Tullamore on Saturday December 29th, which should be a great day out before the new year.
