Longford welcomed Cian Bannon, brother of Mick Bannon, the first team loose head prop, to the fold with his kicking off the tee, his kicking out of hand and his running to the fore. Longford dominated the first half with a cracking set of forwards and collected three penalties leaving the score at 9-0 to Longford at half time. Longford needed to score a few 5 pointers early in the second half while playing against the wind and certainly obliged with a beautiful step, acceleration and try from captain, John Geelan from one yard out.

Cian Bannon then scored a beautifully worked try after good interchange between backs and forwards with a try of his own making leaving the score at 19-0. The three Connolly brothers were on song until Jimmy Connolly had to leave the fold with a tight ham string.

North Kildare scored a well-deserved try in response leaving the score at 19-7 to Longford with 20 minutes left the play and a potential resurgence. Jimmy Mimnagh had other ideas as he raced from Dublin Airport to play the second half and score with his first touch leaving the score at 24-7. Longford then suffered at the hand of the referee with two yellow cards in succession leaving Longford to defend with 13 men. Notably, Longford continued to apply the pressure on North Kildare and played with the normal tempo and Phillie Dardis scoring under the post after a number of close drives from the forwards. North Kildare then collected their own yellow card leaving the scores at 31-7 to Longford.

Longford seconds have now won two games on the trot and notably away from home as they chase silverware and look forward to welcoming Kilkenny Second XV to CPL Park on Sunday next as Longford continue to chase silver wear in what has been a most impressive season to date. Longford Second XV sit third in the table and are certainly putting immense pressure on the First XV. Most notable for Longford on the day was Aaron Beirne in the pack with Cian Bannon and Lorcan Connolly in the back line.
