Coach Blog Part 5; by Backs Coach Glenn Baskett   23/12/2016

So the last competitive game for 2016 saw us coming out the right side of a good win against Mullingar in the Midland League Competition.  The opposite result happened 12 months ago so it was nice to get this one.  Everyone that traveled got on the pitch which was the intention of the coaching team before the match and to see a good turnout of boys a week before Christmas was great.  Even better was the turnout on a Tuesday night before Christmas on a soaked training pitch.  It showed the commitment that will be needed if we are to continue to improve for the remainder of the season.

While the Performance Team are equal on points in the table with Cill Dara, we find ourselves dropped back to 2nd based on 1 less win, after Cill Dara’s win last weekend against Roscrea.  So it is clear what we have done so far hasn’t been good enough and won’t be good enough if we are to achieve our goals for the season.

But for now the boys can take the week off,  enjoy the Christmas break, refocus on individual and team goals and come back into the club with a firm focus on the next challenge of Edenderry at home.

Consistent numbers at training and identifying areas to improve on individually and collectively will be the key to making improvements in the two teams in 2017.  The coaches have looked at themselves and how we are tracking already and know where we need to pick up.

So enjoy the Christmas and we will see everyone back on the pitch on Stephens Day morning.

From the coaches Merry Christmas.
