Coach Blog Part 2; by Backs Coach Glenn Baskett   01/11/2016

After a week off, both Senior Men’s teams are back into training this week. It is two massive weeks of rugby for both teams, on the road, with Newbridge first up, then the current table toppers Cill Dara. The coaches are well aware of how tough it will be to get results on the road this season. We have got into 2nd position in the 1st XV League after our first round loss to Portarlington, and although Newbridge have not got the results they would want so far they are going to be a tough team to get anything out of. We are going to have to be 100% committed for the full 80 minutes, and the guys know that what they have done previously won’t be good enough this week.

The Development XV have not fulfilled the potential they have in their ranks since their 1st round win against Portarlington, and that has disappointed the coaches as much as anything. We need to be training with full strength numbers to challenge both sides and get that game shape. Numbers at training were good last week but we need to keep that going leading in to theses two games.

The U18 coaches have asked to let some of their team slip in and out of training Tuesday night to give them some extra work.  It is great to see the young guys wanting to be involved and also doubles as a bit of opposition to the seniors.

It promises to be a tough, but interesting couple of weeks to see exactly where the two Longford teams are at during this crucial time of the season; there is nothing easy on the road!
